Rabbit & Hamster Happenings!

Rabbit and hamster news.

We did not have any live Jersey babies. We are down to three nice healthy Velveteens and one really bad looking orphan. I almost put it out of it’s misery last night but thought I would see if it was alive this morning and it was ready for breakfast so is still hanging in there. Don’t know what else to do with it. So for 4 does bred we had one not take, two with dead babies, and one with half the litter surviving. Bad round of luck.

Hamsters are doing well. We have some nice colors to wean soon. We need to put more pairs together also – I have to get Jenna to decide what she is going to pair up next.

News

It has been a long time since I have had time to write anything. Panda lost her whole litter. Julie started with 6 and is down to 3 in the box and 2 in the kitchen on a heating pad. The more you want babies out of a doe the harder it seems to get them. We are waiting on Jersey babies right now.

The hamsters are having nice litters. Michelle has 2 solid blacks, a blue, and a mott blue. We have some other litters that should have mott Argente’s – too early to see anything yet.

We have Christmas hamsters that will be going to new homes this week. Lucky kids! It is so hard to shop for kids and get them something worthwhile – I am glad to see some parents have figured out a pet is a good thing. Even for those busy people in town hamsters are a good choice – they are so easy to take care of .

Panda is a bit grouchy these days. I figure that means she is pregnant. We should have 4 or 5 litters in December. Won’t we be busy! Two litters are due while I am out of town. Hope the girls call me as soon as they are born. I am anxiously awaiting the birth of our first litter of Velveteen Lops. That is one of the does due while I am gone!

Jenna’s broken Jersey Wooly doe will be visiting one of Reilly’s bucks today. She is a real nice doe – does well enough showing but has that bit of extra size that will make her a good brood doe as well. I really like this doe and hope she gives us some nice babies.

Panda, our Harlie brood doe, is now about 2 weeks into prenancy. Julie, our Velveteen, was bred at the same time. I didn’t think to look ahead on the calender but I will be in Michigan that week. Kerry and Jenna have promised to call me as soon as either doe has babies. Maybe it’s best if I am gone – otherwise the poor does would be peeked on every 10 minutes!
